Share

Let’s get one thing straight, there is no magic recipe for business success! Luck, a great idea and sheer hard work are all factors but the quantity you need of each will vary in each case.

People have written books on this topic, so how is it possible to sum up quickly and succinctly what makes a successful entrepreneur? Well first of all there is no magic recipe for business success! A great idea, sheer hard work and a little luck are all factors that make a business successful.

If you are planning on becoming an entrepreneur luck may put you in the right place at the right time, your idea may be brilliant, new or just what everyone needs but the real key to success is you.

You must be prepared for hard work. Whether it is in the preparation and planning of the business, the creation of the product/service, the marketing of that product/service or the delivery of that product/service, rest assured it will be hard work.

Despite all that hard work a business can still fail because of the owner. It is vital you have a positive mental attitude. That attitude will see you through dark times, ensure you keep your eye on the goal and keep your mind on the job. A successful entrepreneur will succeed because they know they will succeed. But you still need to put in the work.

The final element in what makes a successful entrepreneur is the ability to network. To be a success you need to talk to people, whether they are clients, prospective clients, suppliers or competitors. There should be no hesitation about picking up the phone, banging out an email or knocking on the door. Business is all about communication and if you are not confident enough to talk to people about your business and your product/service then you are unlikely to be a success.

So there we are – the recipe for being a successful entrepreneur. You need luck, a great idea, you need to be prepared for hard work, have a positive mental attitude and be a good communicator.

If you don’t fit into the above it doesn't mean you won’t be successful but if you can tick all the right boxes, you are well on the way to success.
